-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Chronographer -- A daily planner application Dwight Everhart everhart@chronographer.com January 27, 1998 UPDATE ====== This is Chronographer version 1.11. It was released on Tuesday, January 27, 1998. (Version 1.10 was released for two days, but it had a bug which prevented users of version 0.98 from upgrading. That bug is fixed in this version.) Licenses purchased for version 1.00 or 1.02 will apply to this version, as well as to all 1.xx versions. In fact, all version 1 licenses will also apply to version 2, so, if you buy a version 1 license, you'll get a free upgrade to version 2. This is an especially good deal considering that version 2 will cost US$60, and the price of version 1 will increase to $60 when version 2 is released. Order now and save $20. A note about future versions of Chronographer: Version 2 will run on Rhapsody, Windows 95/NT, and Mac OS when Apple releases the Yellow Box for Mac OS. Version 2 will *not* support OPENSTEP for Mach, but, of course, version 1 will continue to run on that platform. For those of you who have purchased a license already, please don't uninstall the previous version of Chronographer before installing this new version. There's no need to, and, if you do, your registration file will be deleted. I can send you another copy if that happens, but it's better to avoid the hassle in the first place. Features added in this version: o The evaluation period is now based on when you started using Chronographer. It now ends 60 days after you start instead of on an arbitrary date like February 1. If you started using Chronographer before December 17, your evaluation period will end on February 15. To continue using Chronographer after that date, you will need to purchase a license. If you started using Chronographer after December 17, you'll have a full 60 days to evaluate the program. o The date on which the evaluation period ends can be viewed on the registration panel. To see the date, choose the Info-->Register... command. o A new view had been added to the inspector: the File List. With it, a list of files can be associated with any role, goal, task, or appointment. The files can be added using an open panel or by dragging them into a file well or on top of the appointment. One or more of the files can be opened by selecting them and double-clicking or dragging them from the file well. One of the files in the list can be marked as the "default" file. This file will be opened when the appointment is double-clicked if a preference for this is set. If an appointment has no files associated with it, a double-click will open the default file associated with the first parent that has any files in its file list. Files can also be dropped onto an open part of a schedule or to-do list. An appointment will be created for the file using the name of the file as the name of the appointment. o A new command, Agenda-->Load All has been added. If it is used, all appointments will be loaded. This isn't normally needed, since Chronographer automatically loads appointments as it needs them, but it is useful for correcting the effects of a bug which appears to cause the appointment count info to become incorrect. Loading all appointments automatically causes a recount to be done. The appointment count is used mainly by the Task Report to determine which appointments have been scheduled and which haven't. o A lock file is now created when a chronograph is opened to ensure that the same file isn't used by two copies of Chronographer at the same time. If Chronographer finds a lock when it opens the chronograph, it will ask you if it should break the lock and use the chronograph anyway. This will happen when re-starting Chronographer after a crash. o The registration file is now saved in your ~/Library/Chronographer folder in addition to the app wrapper. This ensures that the registration data is preserved if Chronographer is uninstalled and then reinstalled. It also allows you to register Chronographer without running it as root if you installed it as root, although doing so would cause Chronographer to be registered only for you and not for anyone else that uses your system or network. Bug fixed: o Clicking on the completion box of a to-do item or task did not have any effect if the window was not the main window. These new features and fixed bugs are also described in Chronographer's release notes. Choose the Info-->Release Notes command to see them. AVAILABILITY ============ Chronographer is now being distributed in multiple packages: one quad-fat package and four single-architecture packages, one for each of the four hardware platforms supported by NEXTSTEP. You can download Chronographer from its web page at http://www.chronographer.com/Download/. The page lists the sites where Chronographer is available. Just click on the site nearest you. The release is binary-only and includes software for NeXT, Intel, HP-PA, and SPARC hardware. It will run on NEXTSTEP versions 3.2 and later and on all versions of OPENSTEP for Mach. Chronographer is a commercial product. However, you are welcome to try it for free for 60 days. During that time it will be fully functional. If you wish to continue using it after that time, you'll need to purchase a license for US$40 per user. DESCRIPTION =========== Chronographer is an application designed to help you to organize not only your time but also your priorities in life. Instead of just keeping track of appointments, Chronographer also keeps track of the goals that these appointments further, so you can easily determine if what you are doing today is helping you to accomplish what you want to do this week, this month, this year, and this decade. Instead of just asking yourself, "What needs to be done and when do I need to do it?", Chronographer encourages you to first ask, "What do I want to accomplish in life?" and then ask, "What do I need to do in order to achieve these goals?" Chronographer focuses on the long term as well as the short term. Chronographer's time-management concepts are based, in part, on principles developed by Stephen R. Covey and presented in his books _The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People_ and _First Things First_. Chronographer helps you to organize your life by establishing a hierarchy of roles and goals. Out of these roles and goals appointments are scheduled. Chronographer allows you to set a time budget for each role or goal, and it provides you with instant summaries of how much time you've actually spent on each item. It also provides a detailed report of how you've spent your time. FEATURES ======== o A browser to organize your activities by grouping them into roles and goals. o Schedules for keeping track of appointments. Day, week, month, and year schedule views are available. In the day and week schedules, appointments are displayed in colored boxes. Schedule detail can be set to one line for every 60, 30, 15, or 5 minutes. In the month view, a filter can be used to intelligently control which appointments and to-do items are displayed. o To-do lists for keeping track of appointments that don't have specific times associated with them. Each day, week, month, and year has its own to-do list. To-do items can be filtered so that only certain groups of them are displayed. o A button bar for selecting nearby dates, making navigation easy and fast. o Repeating appointments. They can repeat every day, week, month, or year or a multiple of those periods. o Appointment reminders using either a panel, email, or sound. o A time report that lists, in detail, how you spent your time. This could be a useful tool for consultants who need to keep track of how much time they spend on each of their projects. It could also be useful for employees who have to report their time usage to their managers. o Easy drag-and-drop interface. Once you type in an appointment's title, you never have to type it in again. Just drag the appointment to a schedule or to-do list to schedule it. Alternatively, you can just click on a schedule and type in an appointment. Appointment durations can be changed by dragging the edges of the appointment. Appointments can be moved easily by dragging them to another location on the schedule or to another day's schedule or to a to-do list. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: 2.6.2 iQCVAwUBNM1+9m5S27OocYZlAQFXoAP/exDWI0TPxs2KdtMyHgXuK33LrUe5QHEk xi+Ry4e77+79yC27yCGwULhUN6v0ozBE9DC8G0Q/mf+3ljl1/5aVOETgynFi6Yfe AVf9YhsObOp2MUko8pCIc7uACS9sX8gwmsgr1GCnrpQBumqOvLuConLjT8NljCQP 4tm67k2e15g= =Rad+ -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
