ART- Abe's Ray Tracer The following files: P38.tiff TEMPLE.tiff CHESS.tiff PLANES.tiff TOYS.tiff MNT.tiff TANK.tiff TREE.tiff were created by various members of the UPL - Undergraduate Programmers Lab of Madison, WI (upl@khan.cs.wisc.edu). The ray tracer was developed by Abe Megahed (verbose@khan.cs.wisc.edu. Each file was originally a TXT file of instructions on how to draw each picture in 3-dimensions. Many shading, drawing, and raytracing options are available. These pictures were raytraced on a ported alpha NeXT version of ART, which was done by Larry Smith (lawrence@khan.cs.wisc.edu). They were saved into a .RAW file format. Using the MIFF toolkit, Mark Spychalla (spy@khan.cs.wisc.edu) transformed the files into a MIFF file format and then on to a TIFF file format. There are many ART file pictures. I just picked a few that I thought made good backrounds on the NeXT monitor. These pictures look good in 4-bit, 16-bit, and 32-bit color. A beta version of ART is sort of in the works. To accomplish a full NeXTStep version we need a NeXTDimension with lots of ram and a Color monitor. Trying to port a color raytracer and testing it in Black&White doesn't work too well. Any donations? Please let us know! Instructions: First go to the directory you want to install these files into. Type: uncompress ARTPICS.tar.Z Now type: tar -xf ARTPICS.tar This will take all of the ART pictures out of one file and put them in the current directory you are in. Enjoy these pictures! They are very nice to use as backround photographs and also just fun to view. If there are any question on anything, please refer to captain@spock.cs.wisc.edu. Enjoy! - Captain
